The Fresno Bee news website is a good example of a well designed webpage mainly because of its clarity. It makes use of white space, so that the home page doesn’t look too crowded. It also uses limited colors of blue, white, and red which aren’t jarring or distracting. The red text generally focuses the readers attention on important links or information, a dark bold blue is used for the links of headlines, and a mix of white and light blue make up the background. That way, when you navigate through the site, you can easily distinguish what different colors mean. I also like how different sections of news are broken up into different small boxes so the kind of news you’re looking for on the front page is easy to find. You can also navigate the site with drop down menus of different sections of news located at the top of the page. The front page does have a lot of information on it, so this makes it easier for readers who want strictly sports or entertainment news first.
Aside from the front page, the Fresno Bee has a lot to offer. Unlike some of the bad websites we looked at it doesn’t put it all on one page and instead breaks it up. I like that they keep track of their most read, most commented, and most e-mailed stories on the front page so you can keep track of popular news in different ways. Once you navigate away from the main page, different sections have different styles but remain true to the clear simple design. For example in the entertainment section , the design is edgier with a different color scheme but still easy to follow. The two things I didn’t like about the website were the breaking news section, which gives headlines but no pictures to go along with them, and I felt the length of the front page was too long.
Hello Emily, I am glad to see your “other” blog, and that the foot is behind you! (I have put a link to it on my blog because it will give people hope; I hope that’s OK with you.) Forgive me, but I know you are serious about writing, so just a copy edit: second line of the Fresno Bee post, it’s should not have the apostrophe!

Hi Chris! Thanks for linking to my blog! I hope you are doing much better as well. Also, thank you for pointing out that mistake! Just to let you know, I’ve also abandoned this blog and am currently writing at emilyinthephilippines.wordpress.com about my experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer!
